Carol Concert raises £5700

The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Margaret Wells and the Sheriff of York, Fiona Fitzpatrick along with representatives from York Hospital Radio and York Normandy Veterans attended a presentation hosted by the organising committee of York’s Annual Community Carol Concert.

Amounts totalling £5700 were distributed to a number of local charities with proceeds from last years ”Carols at the Barbican” concert held in December.

£2500 each was given to both York Hospital Radio and the Lord Mayor and Sheriff of York’s Christmas Cheer Fund, whilst a £500 donation was given to the York Normandy Veterans Bench Appeal – to be installed at the end of Soldiers Walk in York Cemetery.

Two smaller donations were given to Martin House Hospice and the Shine21 appeal.

The Lord Mayor said, “We are so grateful to York’s Annual Community Carol Concert, they have supported our Christmas Cheer event for over 67 years! This is absolutely fantastic”.

Phil Bewers from York Hospital Radio also commented “We have just celebrated our 60^th anniversary and for the majority of those years we have broadcast the Carol Concert to patients in York Hospitals over the Christmas period – we are delighted to have been associated with them for such a long time.”

Commenting on the £500 donation towards the York Normandy Vets Bench Appeal, Nick Bielby said “This is a tremendous amount towards our appeal. We hope to have the bench in-situ at York Cemetery later this year. We very much appreciate this donation".

This years Concert will take place at York Barbican on Sunday 14 December at 2.00 pm and will feature Shepherd Brass Band, All Saints School Choir, St Paul’s CE Primary School Choir along with Steve Cassidy. Hosted by Rev Andrew Foster and Adam Tomlinson with Musical Director Mike Pratt.

Tickets: £10 adult, £7.50 children and concessions, £30 family ticket (2 adults and 2 children
